Counseling Licensure

The Lynch School of Education and Human Development (LSEHD) at Boston College offers a Master鈥檚 in Mental Health Counseling program that prepares graduate students for initial licensure in Mental Health Counseling in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and many other states that require a 60-credit degree. The Mental Health Counseling program is accredited by the Master鈥檚 in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC).

In order to be a licensed mental health counselor (LMHC) in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts your application must be approved by the .聽 Applicants seeking a license in Mental Health Counseling in Massachusetts must complete an integrated 60-credit Master's degree in Mental Health Counseling or a related field (MA 262.CMR 2.05).聽 The program of study for Boston College鈥檚 60-credit Master鈥檚 degree program in Mental Health Counseling meets all of the educational and pre-Master鈥檚 field training requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Massachusetts.聽

In accordance with MA 262.CMR 2.07, applicants for LMHC licensure must also 1) complete a minimum of two years and at least 3,360 total hours of post-Master鈥檚 clinical experience in mental health counseling under approved supervision, and 2) pass the (NCMHCE) from the (NBCC).聽 Applicants are strongly encouraged to read the
